Pressure to lower business rates works

Support the group appeal against business rates increase of over 50%

Businesses in Lightwater report increases in business rates of over 50% for 2007. Professionally worded and presented appeals can reduce this rate rise.

Appeals against earlier rises in business rates on Lightwater business succeeded. With your help, we can succeed again. The earlier reductions were negotiated with the help of The Coupers Partnership Ltd, their view is that a group appeal may increase the chance of success.

The Coupers Partnership works on a 'no reduction, no fee' basis, and normally seek 50% of the rate reduction as their fee. The Lightwater Business Association has arranged a reduction in Coupers fee to 30%. This group appeal applies only to LBA members.

Paul Moore of Coupers Partnership will contact all LBA members requesting your support, alternatively you can contact Paul on 01625 500126 or 01625 500831.

Application forms are available from Mike Godwin of Unique Car Sound & Security. If you've any queries call him on Tel: 01276 474900, Fax: 01276 474964, Email: mike@uniquecarsound.co.uk

Food in the Square
Sat 14 July 2007

Wonderful “Wobble” went!

Wobble - what’s Wobble? It’s a Hog’s Back Brewery bottled beer, called Wobble in a Bottle, and jolly good too as can be agreed by the many shoppers and visitors to Lightwater’s Food in the Square on Saturday 14th July.

Organised jointly by the Lightwater Business Association and Budgens Supermarket, Food in the Square provided a morning of fun and entertainment for shoppers at the square in Lightwater. While the food tasting and drinks were free - gratefully provided by Loseley Ice Cream, Hogs Back Brewery, The Black Farmer, Blue Rock Butchers, Innocent smoothies, Judith’s Cakes, and local suppliers of mustard, pickles, preserves and honey - shoppers generously donated £157.22 towards the Mayor’s charity and the provision of the hanging flower baskets in the village. Couldn’t help but give a special mention to:

   * Hammond Junior School’s mellifluous choir

   * The spectacular dancers from the Terri-Jayne School of Dance

   * Traditional jazz from the PG Stompers Jazz Band

   * AND not least Mike Duffy of Budgens, and all his staff, without whom there would be no event

   * Also, to the chap who put £10 in the collection bucket on the beer stand, thank youuuuuu!

To Mike Duffy and his team from Budgens.
Triffic! Here’s to next year.

From Councillor Tim Dodds – who happily manned the beer table.

LBA Fayre in the Square
Sat 9th December 2006

This was our 7th event and our most successful. We raised nearly £700 which will be divided between The Mayor's Charity, hanging baskets and Christmas lights.

The best dressed window was won for the second year running by Lightwater Opticians.

We would like to thank all the village groups who took part: Scouts, Guides, Gardening Club, Church, Village School, Hammond School, Budgens and all the other stall holders.

Thanks also to the Mayor and Michael Gove, our MP, for their support.

Tim Salter
LBA Chairman

Community Campaigns

Lightwater Post Office

The LBA is campaigning to see and end to any undelivered mail in Lightwater being passed to Bagshot Post Office. We want to collect undelivered mail from Lightwater Post Office, not Bagshot. It’s easy to add your support, download the letter template HERE, make any changes you feel necessary, and print it on your business stationery.

Troublesome Youth in the Village Centre

Youths who gather in the office car parks behind Budgens have been causing a nuisance and on occasions committing criminal damage to property. While not yet serious, reporting such instances to the local neighbourhood police team will help put a stop to it. The police telephone contact number is 0845 125 2222, and you can also contact our local PCSO, Mike Mann by email on: Mann10513@surrey.pnn.police.uk.
